Jim Hubbard: Music
Every Morning
(Jim Hubbard)
2006
Jim Hubbard
Written about my daily trek to high school in Manhattan. I sure miss that insanity.
Every Morning
I caught a glimpse of the city skyline
While traveling on the morning train
I felt the sun coming up over Liberty
And calling everybody’s name
Eyes all buried in the news
As my city seems to go insane
All the courage and the colors of the children
And the river still looks the same
Every morning the crowd is
Riding on this uptown train
The whole world’s all crammed inside
Riding out this Brooklyn rain
Every morning the crowd is
Riding on this uptown train
The whole world’s all crammed inside
Riding on this uptown train
Chinatown’s the first stop in the city
On the way to the daily grind
The lights are flashing and the tunnel rats are dashing
As we leave the old bridge behind
Music is blocking out the noise
And my watch cap covers my phones
Passing by all the downtown city blocks
And a few forgotten bones
Every morning the crowd is
Riding on this up town train
The whole world’s all crammed inside
Gliding down this bedrock drain
Every morning the crowd
Riding on this uptown train
The whole world’s all crammed inside
Riding on this uptown train
(Instrumental)
Celebration, culmination, aggravation
All cultures on a subway train
Toleration, jubilation, thinking of a long vacation
And a big jet plane
Eyes on the platform are watching
As it comes around the bend
A cattle car full of people all crammed in
Starting another day again.
(Chorus)
